Band Notes 9/2 to 9/8 - WELCOME

Welcome to the first week of classes at Mead HS for the 2024/2025 school year! With a lot of hard work, and maybe a little luck (😁) this will be an incredible year of music and memory making in band. I do believe that our team does an amazing job at providing incredible opportunities and experiences for the students involved. We aren't perfect and will need your help with engagement along the way. Please ask questions, seek to understand, and build relationships with our entire team.

The first few weeks can be a little overwhelming with operational details in just about every one of your classes, including band. Find a way to take a deep breath and enjoy, or at least be present for, every moment. Believe it or not, your time in high school will fly by and the next thing you know, you're on stage graduating!

In our first week or two together in band, we'll make sure we check for correct class placement, become familiar with our syllabus, schedule, fees, instrument needs, the band room, locker room, and much much more.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE make sure you are connected to the Band App for releases of information and regular updates and reminders especially through the first month or so of the year. Use THIS LINK to request entry into our Band Notes 24/25 group.

Jazz Band Info

Jazz band class will begin on WEDNESDAY. We will not be meeting the first day of school due to the 1st day bell schedule. On Wednesday, we will hand out and go over our audition materials for initial band placement. Please bring your instrument on Wednesday and report to the band room by 7am. During the audition process and beyond, be brave, courageous and bold in your playing. Show us who you are! On Wednesday Sept 11, we will begin meeting in assigned bands (Jazz 1, Jazz 2, and possibly a Jazz 3). Auditions will likely be video submissions of you playing the audition material on your own time.

Playing in Class

We will begin playing Pep music in class on Friday of this week. Bring the instrument you might use for this setting (bass clarinets bring your clarinet, F Horns bring your trumpet, bari saxes bring your altos, etc).

Need an Instrument?

We do our best to accommodate everyone in need of an instrument. We are very low in inventory on many instruments so I would encourage you to check out rental options. Rentals are often better in quality than many of our available instruments and come with some great repair inclusions. We will go through those needs the first couple days of classes.

Use of a school instrument does come with a $45 per semester fee (one time per student, not per instrument). This fee assists in covering a portion of the cleaning fee for its use by the student.

Lockers and Locks

We HIGHLY ENCOURAGE the use of lockers and a school provided lock. This is the best way to ensure your items are safe from theft, pranks, etc. We will go over locker and lock assignment in the first few days of classes.
