Colorguard
ABOUT THE COLORGUARD

The Mead HS Colorguard is an integral and critical part of the Mead HS Marching Band. They create a large portion of the visual interest and effect of our show each year. Performance opportunities include travel to marching band contests, varsity home football games, school assemblies, stage performances, and community events.
The Colorguard class is offered 1st semester and is required for members of the colorguard. Additionally, only members of the marching band are enrolled in this class. Class time will be spent on learning and “cleaning” choreography related to the marching band production and developing skills related to colorguard performance. There are also required rehearsals outside the school day. In August, the group has a 2 week Band Camp. During the months of September and October, additional rehearsals are held 2-3 times per week outside the school day. The group also rehearses a couple of Saturdays in September.
Beginning in the month of November, students will begin to develop their own creative skills as they are asked to choreograph a 3-5 minute production using the skills they have learned. This production will be showcased on a Recital to be held in the Mead HS Theatre in January.
