General Information

The Mead High School music program is proud of its longstanding tradition of excellence in every component of the program. The marching band is the recipient of numerous sweepstakes and caption awards.

creativity_bannerMarching band at Mead High School is one of the most exhilarating performing experiences you can be a part of.  The amazing trips, the excitement of competition, and the long-lasting friendships all create an unforgettable experience.

The Marching Band season begins with “retreat” and “band camp”.

Our Retreat for the MHS Marching Band has been established to “kick-off” the season with fun social activities and to re-familiarize or learn the detailed basic skills needed throughout the marching band season. Evening activities may include movie watching, karaoke singing, video games, and many others.  On the final Friday of retreat, the group loads buses and heads to Silverwood for a complete day of fun! Although the MHS Marching Band prides itself on discipline, hard work, and stellar performances, we do like to have fun along the way!

Following our retreat week, we’ll dig into the 2009 competitive show production.  The rehearsals are disciplined and hard work but not without reward.  This investment in oneself to be the best you can be pays off through great performances, travel, pride and ownership.

emma_taylor_katieOur final day of band camp will be a preview performance and potluck with, and for, our parents

and friends.  When school resumes, weekly rehearsals begin for the marching band.  The group practices only 2 times a week from 3pm – 5:30pm on the MHS Campus (3 times per week for percussion).  There are 2 “special” Saturday rehearsals scheduled in the month of September.  One of those Saturdays is our Joe Albi Day.  This rehearsal features a BBQ for students, families and friends and concludes with an evening dress rehearsal and performance of the show.

Our contest portion of the season begins on the last Saturday of September and works its way through the last weekend of October when the season comes to a close.  Our typical contest schedule includes performances in Tri-Cities, Spokane, and Everett.  In 2009 we are hoping to attend a show in the San Francisco Area!
It’s easy to be skeptical about marching band and dismiss it as something you can do without.  We can assure you with complete confidence that this will be a life-changing experience and will provide life-lasting memories.

Her are just a few ways marching band will benefit you!

  1. You will be a member of one of the finest marching bands in the Pacific NW!
  2. On your first day of school, you will have 130 friends from a variety of grade levels AND know 2 of your teachers
  3. Our trips are a blast! Overnighters, gym stays, and road trips with friends to exciting places are just a few things that make marching band a unique and fun experience!
